The NSW Branch is committed to the ACNN objectives of advancing the speciality of neonatal nursing and positively influencing care for neonates and their families.
The Branch provides a forum for discussion and debate about how neonatal nurses can work together to achieve optimal care for neonates and their families. Torie Finnane Foundation and Babies in the Bush seminars
Torie Finnane was a much-loved midwife who tragically passed away at age 34 from bacterial meningitis after
the birth of her third child in Orange, NSW. Torie had extensive experience and knowledge in both metropolitan and rural midwifery
care, and was renowned for her easy ability in sharing that with her colleagues. She could teach, inform, encourage and delight those around
her with the wonders of human birth and connect with people from all walks of life. The Torie Finnane Foundation (TFF), established in her
honour, is a NSW-based organisation that strives to provide education and development opportunities for midwives and nurses working in
regional maternity and neonatal care with the aim of improving service and care to women, infants and families in these areas. The overall
objective of doing so is to reduce the number of occasions where newborns need to be transferred to larger hospitals for care, and to allow
infants born in metropolitan hospitals to transfer back to a regional hospital in their own communities sooner while continuing to receive a
high standard of health care. ACNN NSW Branch is privileged and excited to partner with TFF in delivering
expert knowledge, education and support to rural neonatal/maternity sites and continuing Torie’s legacy.
